Pushing Android client to new devices
In some cases, you need to create the devices in DME before pushing the client to them. This is called pre-registering the devices. For information about this, see Import devices. If you do have to pre-register devices, then you should use the push method described in the previous section. See Push client to existing Android devices.
To push the Android client to devices that are not known to DME, do the following:
The following Software installation window is shown:
Phone numbers: Add recipient devices by entering a phone number in the Phone numbers field and clicking Add. To remove a phone number from the list, click the number, and click Remove. You can Ctrl+click to select multiple numbers in the list.
Installation options: These options do not apply to Android devices.
Scheduling: See Push client to existing Android devices for information about scheduling options.
Push technology: Choose SMS push (WAP push is not supported on Android).
Send SMS message: You can send an information SMS to the users with a default message, or you can write your own message. The message could say that a link will be sent to the device by SMS, and that it is OK to click the link to download the software.
The installation process begins. You can follow the process as described in Monitor the installation process.
Provided that your SMS center (Kannel, Now SMS, or a third-party SMS center) has been set up correctly, the users will now receive two text messages. One contains a link to the DME client. When the user clicks to download and then install the client, the client will automatically read and delete the next SMS, which contains the server path for the DME server.
Please be aware of the setting Create device on first connect in the Authentication section of the Server configuration panel. New devices that connect for the first time will only be created in DME if this setting is Yes. Otherwise, a manual process must be applied afterwards. See Authentication.
Note that it is possible to install any uploaded software to Android devices in this way. You can do this by choosing the Install software action from the Other software panel section rather than the DME clients panel section.
