As of DME 4.0, two types of licenses exist: Users and Devices.
The number of active users permitted on the DME system.
The number of active devices permitted on the DME system.
One user can have several devices, for instance an Android handset and an iPad tablet. This is reflected in the license file in the following way:
Example: Your company has purchased a license for 200 users, of which 100 users have two devices. The license file will then allow 200 users and 300 devices.
DME keeps a count of the active users on the system. You can release the license from a device by selecting it in the Devices tab and clicking Release license in the page menu. The device will automatically consume a license again if it is used to access the system, if a license is available.
DME helps you release licenses that are no longer required. If a user is removed from one of those groups in AD/LDAP that give access to using DME, then that user's license, and the license of all devices that belong to the user, will be released automatically when the user/group membership is refreshed. This takes place regularly - see the Web administration section of Web.
The licenses can have varying levels of access to the DME system, as described in the following section Limits.
